Math & Computer Science, Curriculum Overview
The math/computer science curriculum is designed to bring mathematical and computer knowledge within the grasp of all students. Individual differences are considered by the presentation of topics at the student’s level of comprehension and ability. Understanding of basic concepts and skills is constantly stressed as well as logical reasoning and mathematical insight.
The opportunity is provided for the students to discover related patterns in the various branches of mathematics and to appreciate the part played by mathematics in the development of our changing technology, sciences, business and industry. Through the use of available computer programs, students may obtain general knowledge or very extensive knowledge about computer technology and programming. Students will be made aware of the ethical issues of computers in our society and how to surf the Internet properly.
Students are encouraged to appreciate the beauty of mathematics as a creative art and thus aid in the development of their cultural background. Since computers have become an integral part of people’s lives, the department strives to continue to remain current with the advancements in technology and to pass this knowledge onto our students. The student will be qualified to continue in mathematical and computer education on a collegiate level or enter the labor market.
