Abe Simon Memorial

In the fall of 2014, the Royals lost a beloved administrator, colleague, and friend, Mr. Abe Simon, Vice-Principal of Academic Affairs at Holy Redeemer High School. Abe was a loving father, son and brother, a dedicated coach and educator, and a proud veteran of the Army Reserves.

As a means of honoring Abe’s memory, then-current faculty and students of Holy Redeemer conceived a multi- phased project, the goal of which was to create lasting remembrances of Abe's legacy. The initial phase included replacing all American flags throughout our building and adding a plaque paying tribute to Abe underneath each flag. The hope of this project was to provide a very visual presence of the admirable character of Abe Simon.

The next phase included purchasing new flags and a larger plaque for the flag pole in front of Holy Redeemer High School. The installation of a lighting system that provides nightly illumination was also included.

The last phase of this memorial project - to honor one of Abe’s keen educational interests of upgrading technology within the classroom - was, until very recently, merely a distant dream. However, Holy Redeemer prides itself on the completion of its 1:1 initiative, with all students possessing personal Chromebook devices by 2021. All faculty members have also received training in the use of online resources and platforms such as Google Classroom, Newsela, and Khan Academy, and Smartboards were installed in all classrooms by December of 2020. Most thrillingly, we are excited to announce that we have begun the process of converting our school library to a digital learning commons and media center to better prepare our students for twenty-first century challenges and innovations.

Above all, Abe cared for and respected our students. To carry on his mission of compassion, we offer scholarships and tuition assistance in his name.
