Student Resources

Click the headings below to access helpful resources for current students. Our office prioritizes the success of each student holistically, including but not limited to assistance with post-secondary planning, leadership opportunities, and resume building.

Our school partners with College Board to offer students access to advanced academic opportunities, including the SAT, PSAT/NMSQT, and Advanced Placement (AP) courses and exams. These programs help students prepare for college, earn college credit, and explore future career pathways. Through College Board, all learners grow in academic excellence and post-secondary preparedness.

For current seniors: A centralized college application platform accepted by over 1,000 colleges and universities worldwide. The Common App streamlines the college admissions process, allowing students to apply to multiple institutions with one application. Our counseling team provides guidance on using the platform effectively, from completing applications to submitting essays and recommendations.

For current sophomores: Each year, our school nominates outstanding 10th-grade students to participate in the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) Seminar. This program empowers young leaders through interactive workshops, team-building activities, and community service. HOBY inspires students to recognize their leadership potential and develop the skills to make a positive impact in their schools and communities. Applications for HOBY 2026 are due 11/14/25.

Scholarships

Scholarships are a valuable way to help offset the cost of college. They vary in eligibility criteria and always come with strict deadlines, so staying organized is key!

  • Local Scholarships: Available after the new year, these scholarships typically have smaller applicant pools. Our School Counseling Office, through Mrs. Harvilla, shares updates as they become available. Seniors should watch their email for messages from pharvilla@holyredeemerhs.org.

  • School-Specific Scholarships: Many colleges offer their own scholarships, which can be found on their websites or through the Common App. If you're unsure where to look, contact the college’s financial aid office for guidance.

  • National and Other Scholarships: These are often more competitive but still worthwhile, especially if the criteria align with your background or interests. Popular scholarship search websites include:

As part of the college application and recommendation process, seniors are asked to complete a Senior Info Sheet. This form provides a snapshot of a student’s academic achievements, extracurricular involvement, community service, work experience, and future goals. Counselors and teachers use this information to write personalized letters of recommendation and to assist students in highlighting their strengths in post-secondary plans, and scholarship applications.

Students are encouraged to be thoughtful and thorough when completing the form to best represent their accomplishments and aspirations. Return completed forms to the guidance office.
